Frequently Asked Questions
Fairhope Soccer Club offers two seasons. Fall (September through November) & Spring (March through May)
- Tots U5 Coed
- U6 Coed
- U8 Boys & Girls
- U10 Boys & Girls
- U13 Boys & Girls
We combine birth years to form teams. For example, U10 is the combination of U9 & U10. We try to have even amount of U9 players & U10 players on each team.
The player's age as of August 1 is Under 8 years old. Check out the Birth Chart Matrix
Practices normally last about 45 minutes to an hour. Older age groups U13 & above may practice one hour to one hour 15 minutes.
FSC recommends that U6-U8 teams practice once per week and U10-U13 teams practice twice a week. U6-U8 teams may practice twice a week until games start.
We have no way of predicting when your child’s practices will be held until they are assigned to a team because the volunteer coach picks the day and time that is most convenient for him/her. All of our coaches are asked to practice on a weekday evening starting some time on or after 5:00 PM.
If you volunteer to coach your child’s team you get the opportunity to select a practice day and time that works best for you and your family. Outside of the satisfaction of doing a great thing for your community, picking the practice day and time is the ultimate coaching perk!
All practices & games are held at Fairhope Soccer Complex 18383 County Rd 13 Fairhope unless other specified.
We understand and appreciate your family may have other activities outside of Fairhope Soccer Club. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate specific practice time requests. When your child is assigned to a team, it is up to your volunteer coach what day or time works. With over 400 kids playing each season, it is not possible to try and accommodate every conflict or practice difficulty.
Please remember the coaches are volunteering their time and juggling work and other activities. We ask that you do your best to make the assigned practice day and time work for you. If you still cannot make it work, please contact us.
All players MUST wear shin guards (worn under socks) and soccer cleats (No baseball or football cleats allowed). For U6 & below, sneakers are acceptable.
Soccer Ball Size:
- Size 3 for Tots, U6-U8
- Size 4 for U10-U13
Black shorts are required for game day. FSC provides a game day jersey and matching socks.
Tots, U6-U8: Size 3
U10-U13: Size 4
If you forget your soccer ball, FSC has one you can borrow in the equipment area.
A soccer ball, soccer cleats, shinguards, socks and plenty of water. Make sure soccer ball & water bottle are labeled with full name and telephone number.
Player safety is very important. No jewelry, earrings (if new, have parent but band aids on ears) or hairbows/headbands.
Eyeglasses: A player can wear glasses to play soccer as long as the glasses are designated “sport glasses”. Standard, everyday glasses are not designed to withstand the demands of a soccer game and may become damaged. Sports glasses are more robust and less likely to be damaged during competitive play.
Jewelry: This includes having all players remove jewelry which includes, earrings, rubber or cloth bracelets, watches, and necklaces (unless for religious and medical reason, necklace must be tape to chest under jersey).
FSC Exception to rule: We will allow earrings to be taped with band aids if your player has recently had them pierced. Players will need to ready to play with earrings tape/band aids. Just like having shin guards and soccer cleats on before the start of the practice/game, please have ALL jewelry removed.
Casts, guards, braces, etc. must be padded with a foam padding no less than 1/2 inch thick and securely covered. The referee must approve it. Players with injuries must have a medical release signed by a physician and turned into our referee assignor.
While you are registering your child, you can check box that you would like to coach or assistant coach.
ALL our volunteers coaches or assistant coaches are required to complete a background check, Safe Sports Certification and Coach Safely Certification as per Alabama Soccer Association once a year.
Our staff will send you an email link to complete the requirements.
We try our best to accommodate special requests, however there are no guarantees. Our goal is to make teams as equal in skill level as possible.
Coach Requests: The children of one coach and one assistant coach are guaranteed to be placed on the same team. We do our best to keep same-age-group siblings together.
The only friend requests we honor are the kids of the coach and the assistant coach.
A lot of times we have too many friend requests for one team, or a player that isn’t registered for the season or in a different age group altogether. Often kids who are friends tend to be at the same skill level as each other. Our goal is to make teams as equal in skill level as possible.
Most likely, your child will still have friends on the team and will probably make new friends.
Once registered, a player has an obligation to remain with her/his team for the season. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us.
There are many factors that go into team formation. We look at player ratings from the season prior, player's playing experience, how many seasons played, school & birth years. We do our best to make teams as even as possible. We can not guarantee specific team or coach requests.
FSC rules require all youth players play at least one half of each game, however, we expect commitment to attending practices/games. It will be up to the coach how much playing time your child gets.
You will hear from your son/daughter’s volunteer coach about 2 weeks before the season begins. E-mail is primarily used for communications. The coach will have information on practice and game schedules, and he/she will have the uniforms to hand out. The coach will also hold a parent meeting to communicate team activities, roles and responsibilities, and answer questions from parents.
