Frequently Asked Questions
Fairhope Soccer Club offers two seasons. Fall (September through November) & Spring (March through May)
The "U" in age groups (e.g., U8) refers to a player's age between August 1st and July 31st. A U8 player is 8 and under during the soccer season.
Practices typically last 45 minutes to one hour. Older age groups, U13 and above, may practice for one hour to one hour and 15 minutes.
FSC recommends the following practice schedules:
U6-U8 teams: Practice once per week. They may practice twice a week until the games start. One practice-One Game
U10-U14 teams: Practice twice a week. No more than 3 touches per week. One game-Two practices or 2 Games
We cannot determine practice times for your child until they are assigned to a team, as the volunteer coach selects the day and time that best suits them. Our coaches are asked to schedule practices on Mondays through Thursdays between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Volunteering to coach your child's team allows you to select practice days and times that best suit your family. Besides the satisfaction of giving back to the community, choosing the practice schedule is a great coaching perk!
All practices & games are held at Fairhope Soccer Complex 18383 County Rd 13 Fairhope unless other specified.
We understand and appreciate that your family may have other activities outside of Fairhope Soccer Club. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate specific practice time requests. When your child is assigned to a team, the practice day and time will be determined by the volunteer coach. With over 500 kids playing each season, it is not possible to accommodate every conflict or practice difficulty.
Please remember that our coaches are volunteers who also juggle work and other commitments. We ask that you do your best to accommodate the assigned practice day and time. If you are still unable to make it work, please contact us.
All players MUST wear shin guards (worn under socks) and soccer cleats (No baseball or football cleats allowed). For U6 & below, sneakers are acceptable.
Soccer Ball Size:
- Size 3 for U5-U8
- Size 4 for U10-U12
- Size 5 for U14
Black shorts are required for game day. FSC provides the game day jersey and matching socks.
Tots, U6-U8: Size 3
U10-U13: Size 4
If you forget your soccer ball, FSC has one you can borrow in the equipment area.
A soccer ball, soccer cleats, shinguards, socks, and plenty of water are required. Please ensure the soccer ball and water bottle are clearly labeled with the full name and telephone number.
Player safety is very important. No jewelry, earrings (if new, have parent but band aids on ears) or hairbows/headbands.
Eyeglasses: A player can wear glasses to play soccer as long as the glasses are designated “sport glasses”. Standard, everyday glasses are not designed to withstand the demands of a soccer game and may become damaged. Sports glasses are more robust and less likely to be damaged during competitive play.
Jewelry: This includes having all players remove jewelry which includes, earrings, rubber or cloth bracelets, watches, and necklaces (unless for religious and medical reason, necklace must be tape to chest under jersey).
FSC Exception to rule: We will allow earrings to be taped with band aids if your player has recently had them pierced. Players will need to ready to play with earrings tape/band aids. Just like having shin guards and soccer cleats on before the start of the practice/game, please have ALL jewelry removed.
Casts, guards, braces, etc. must be padded with a foam padding no less than 1/2 inch thick and securely covered. The referee must approve it. Players with injuries must have a medical release signed by a physician and turned into our referee assignor.
While registering your child, there's a box to indicate interest in coaching or assisting.
All volunteer coaches and assistant coaches must complete an annual background check, Safe Sports Certification, and Coach Safely Certification, as required by the Alabama Soccer Association.
Our staff will email you a link to complete these requirements.
We try our best to accommodate special requests; however, there are no guarantees. Our goal is to make teams as equal in skill level as possible.
Coach Requests: The children of one coach and one assistant coach are guaranteed to be placed on the same team. We do our best to keep same-age-group siblings together.
The only friend requests we honor are for the children of the coach and assistant coach. We often receive numerous friend requests for a single team, or requests for players who are not registered for the season or are in a different age group. It is also common for friends to be of similar skill levels. Our primary goal is to form teams that are balanced in terms of skill. Your child will likely find friends on their team and make new ones as well.
Once registered, a player has an obligation to remain with their team for the season. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us.
There are many factors that go into team formation. We consider player ratings from the previous season, playing experience, the number of seasons played, school affiliation, and age group. We strive to create balanced teams, but we cannot guarantee specific team or coach requests.
FSC rules require all youth players to participate in at least half of each game. However, we also expect a commitment to attending all practices and games. The coach will determine the specific playing time for each child.
You will hear from your son/daughter's volunteer coach about two weeks before the season begins. TeamSnap is primarily used for communications. The coach will have information on practice and game schedules and will distribute uniforms. The coach will also hold a parent meeting to communicate team activities, roles, responsibilities, and answer questions.
Prior to a player being rostered to a team, a full refund will be granted.
After a player is rostered on a team and published, a 40% refund will be granted.
No refunds will be granted once practice has started or if a player is a no-show.
A full refund will be given to players unable to be placed on a team.
No refunds will be made for cancellations due to inclement weather, injuries, or other circumstances beyond our control. While we make every effort to schedule and reschedule soccer events (practices/games/camps/sessions), Fairhope Soccer Club cannot guarantee all events will occur due to variables beyond our control.
Only in the following cases will a pro-rated refund be granted:
* Medical emergency (e.g., broken arm)
